Pathways to Higher Education is a Global Project sponsored by the Ford Foundation of USA. The project envisages the objective of providing equal opportunities to the socially and economically marginalised students all over the world to access higher education. The project is implemented in 125 developing countries. In India, the project was started in the year 2002-03 and was implemented through an NGO Trust called Foundation for Academic Excellence and Access [FAEA] based in New Delhi. There are totally 22 colleges selected for this project in India.

Sahyadri Science College, Shimoga is fortunate enough to be included since the beginning of the project in the year 2002-03. The college has conducted several innovative activities and is regarded as one of the best colleges in the country. The college is proud enough to have an exclusive unit with state of the art facilities to train the students. This could be possible because of the pro-active attitude of the University authorities and administration which provided total autonomy in the implementation. The unit has completed its full term of seven years (2002-2009). Now it is looking forward to sustain on its own to carry on the journey and help the needy student community in this region.
